Friday 8 November 2013, by Mathilde Vautier.

The 2013 edition of the European Culture Forum was organised on 4th, 5th and 6th November 2013 in Brussels, and amongst the 1200 European participants were ZEPA 2 Coordinator Mathilde Vautier and Atelier 231 Administrator Anne le Goff (who were lucky enough to have had a place!).

A rather special edition, as the Forum was held at the dawn of 2014, when the new EU programme 2014-2020 is implemented.

The three-day intense and high quality programme included various discussions and speeches from experts in economy, sociology, EU public affairs or professionals from the cultural and creative sectors, on topics key to the forthcoming programme period:

  • Measuring the true value of culture
  • Participation and audience development in the cultural and creative sectors
  • Developing cross-sectors partnerships
  • Access to new funding models

Watch the video of the Forum here as well as keynote speeches from European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou.
Listen to Czech economist Tomas SEDLÁČEK (in English only) on the relationship between culture and economics and the new narrative that he suggests.
